Serving and working for the betterment of the City and with the support of the residents I will be a productive Member of the West Covina City Council where my skills, education, experience and integrity can be effectively utilized to help our great City survive the economic down-turn and emerge better than ever.


After 35 years of protecting and serving the public, first as a Compton Police Department Community Service Officer and then 33 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the County of Los Angeles, Fred has the skills to be a representative and a leader for the citizens of West Covina. His professional and personal background has allowed him to obtain strong analytical and observational skills. He is experienced in coordinating efforts with many different types of people as a team worker employing diplomacy, grace, and versatility. His job background entailed public speaking, preparing reports, conducting investigations, apprehension of criminals, dignitary and judicial protection, training personnel, and community relations.

Fred has lived in West Covina since 1978. Fred is married to his wife Dana and they have a 21 year old daughter who is attending college. Fred also has an adult son who is now a Deputy Sheriff for the County of Los Angeles and a West Covina home owner. Since Fred comes from a family of seven children he knows how to listen, work in a group, how to be persistent and patient. Fred is a City Councilmember, community activist, an active member of the West Covina Lions Club, the West Covina Historical Society, West Covina Beautiful, the California Democratic Party State Central Committee(DSCC) and The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS). 

Fredrick Sykes has spent his entire adult life protecting and caring for people.
